Slope and Equations of a Line
How to describe the steepness of a line, and write its equation in different forms.
Slope of a Line
The slope measures the steepness of a line:
$$m = \frac{y_2 - y_1}{x_2 - x_1}$$Forms of the Equation of a Line
| Form | Equation |
|---|---|
| Slope-Intercept | $y = mx + c$ |
| Point-Slope | $y - y_1 = m(x - x_1)$ |
| Two-Point | $\dfrac{y-y_1}{y_2-y_1} = \dfrac{x-x_1}{x_2-x_1}$ |
