Alkanes

Saturated hydrocarbons - the simplest family of organic compounds.

Alkanes

Alkanes are saturated hydrocarbons containing only single bonds, with the general formula CnH2n+2.

Example: Methane (CH4), Ethane (C2H6)

Preparation and Properties

Alkanes are relatively unreactive, but undergo free-radical substitution reactions, such as halogenation.
