The Modern Periodic Law and the Periodic Table

The organising principle behind the arrangement of all known elements.

Modern Periodic Law

The properties of elements are a periodic function of their atomic number. Elements in the periodic table are arranged in order of increasing atomic number, into periods (rows) and groups (columns).

Note: Elements in the same group have similar chemical properties because they share the same number of valence electrons.
