Alkenes and Alkynes

Unsaturated hydrocarbons containing double or triple bonds.

Alkenes

Contain at least one carbon-carbon double bond, general formula CnH2n. They readily undergo addition reactions.

Alkynes

Contain at least one carbon-carbon triple bond, general formula CnH2n-2.

Note: The presence of multiple bonds makes alkenes and alkynes far more reactive than alkanes.
