Ethers
Compounds containing an oxygen atom connected to two carbon groups.
Structure and Properties
An ether has the general structure R-O-R', with an oxygen atom bonded to two alkyl or aryl groups. Ethers are relatively unreactive compared to alcohols, but can still undergo cleavage under strongly acidic conditions.
