Types and Concentration of Solutions
The different kinds of solutions, and the standard ways of expressing how concentrated one is.
Types of Solutions
A solution is a homogeneous mixture of two or more substances. Depending on the physical state of solute and solvent, solutions can be solid, liquid, or gaseous.
Expressing Concentration
| Method | Definition |
|---|---|
| Mass Percentage | Mass of solute per 100 g of solution |
| Molarity (M) | Moles of solute per litre of solution |
| Molality (m) | Moles of solute per kg of solvent |
| Mole Fraction | Moles of a component divided by total moles |
