Nucleophilic Substitution

Haloalkanes readily undergo nucleophilic substitution reactions (SN1 and SN2 mechanisms), since the halogen is a good leaving group.

Note: Haloarenes are far less reactive towards nucleophilic substitution than haloalkanes, due to the partial double-bond character between carbon and halogen in the aromatic ring.
