All chordates possess a notochord, a dorsal hollow nerve cord, and pharyngeal gill slits, at least at some stage of development.
Classes of Vertebrates
Vertebrates (chordates with a proper backbone) are grouped into classes such as Pisces (fish), Amphibia, Reptilia, Aves (birds), and Mammalia.
