The major groups of plants and how they differ from one another.
Major Plant Groups
| Group | Key Feature |
|---|---|
| Algae | Simple, mostly aquatic, photosynthetic organisms |
| Bryophyta | "Amphibians of the plant kingdom" - need water for reproduction, no true vascular tissue |
| Pteridophyta | First plants with true vascular tissue (xylem and phloem); reproduce by spores |
| Gymnospermae | Seed-bearing plants with "naked" seeds (not enclosed in a fruit) |
| Angiospermae | Flowering plants; seeds enclosed within a fruit |
