Biology - Class XI

The Light Reactions

How light energy is captured and converted into chemical energy.

Site of Photosynthesis

Occurs in the chloroplasts, which contain the pigment chlorophyll that absorbs light.

Light Reactions

Take place in the thylakoid membrane. Light energy is used to split water molecules (releasing oxygen) and to generate ATP and NADPH, the energy carriers used in the next stage.
