The Human Respiratory System
How oxygen gets into the blood, and carbon dioxide gets out.
Respiratory Organs
Air passes through the nasal passage, pharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchi, and into the lungs, where gas exchange occurs in tiny air sacs called alveoli.
Mechanism of Breathing
Breathing involves inspiration (inhaling) and expiration (exhaling), driven by changes in the volume of the chest cavity due to the diaphragm and rib muscles.
