The Neuron and Nerve Impulse
The basic unit of the nervous system, and how it transmits signals.
Structure of a Neuron
A neuron consists of a cell body, dendrites (receive signals), and an axon (transmits signals to the next neuron).
Nerve Impulse
Signals travel along a neuron as an electrical impulse, and cross the gap to the next neuron (a synapse) using chemical messengers called neurotransmitters.
