Physics - Class XII

Diffraction and Polarization

How light bends around obstacles, and how its vibrations can be restricted to one direction.

Diffraction

Diffraction is the bending of light waves around the edges of an obstacle or through a narrow slit, producing a characteristic pattern of bright and dark bands.

Polarization

Polarization restricts the vibrations of a light wave to a single plane — a phenomenon only possible because light is a transverse wave.
