Torque and Angular Momentum

The rotational equivalents of force and linear momentum.

Torque

Torque (or moment of a force) measures the turning effect of a force about a point or axis.

τ = r × F

Angular Momentum

Just as linear momentum is conserved in the absence of external force, angular momentum is conserved in the absence of external torque — this is the law of conservation of angular momentum.
